Easy Home Detox for Hair

Our hair takes a beating every day. It’s exposed to pollution, the sun’s UV rays, and active ingredients from products to name a few. These add up, leading to severe damage and a really bad look. But we can reverse this using simple home remedies and get back that clean, health, and shiny hair glow!

Here are a few tricks you can whip out using accessible ingredients.


Baking Soda

Baking soda isn’t just for giving baked goods a lift and keeping our fridge from smelling like an amalgamation of leftovers of days past. It’s also great for general hair and scalp detox.  Massaging a mixture of half a cup of baking soda and three cups of hot but manageable water into your wet hair for a few minutes would rid it of a lot of nasties. Oil, dandruff, and hair product buildup are loosened up and removed. It’s best to do this around once every two weeks.


Apple Cider Vinegar

If you are worried about too much oil getting removed, then a good apple cider vinegar cleanse would be perfect for you. Add a quarter cup of vinegar to two cups of water. Shampoo and rinse you hair then apply the diluted vinegar mix. Do not rinse until your next shower. So it’s obviously best to do this on your day off. You can do this once a week.


Raw Honey

Honey making an appearance once again. Add a tablespoon of raw honey to three tablespoons of filtered water. This can be used as a shampoo alternative. Hair is softened, cleansed, and moisturized without the use of chemicals.


Coco Aloe Mix

Whisk a whole can of coconut milk with 2 cups of aloe vera gel. Use about a tablespoon or thereabouts as a shampoo. The mix removes dirt, grime, and product buildup. It also neutralizes the scalps pH levels. Don’t forget to refrigerate your natural shampoo!


Cinnamon and Soda

This is quite a fragrant mixture so fans of cinnamon are in for a treat! Mix half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder, a teaspoon of baking soda, and two tablespoons of olive oil. Massage onto the scalp and work through the hair strands. Leaving the mix on for a good 20 minutes should so do it. Rinse with warm water. This mixture doesn’t just clean off grime. It’s also a good antioxidant so it prevents hair and scalp damage by a great deal.


Lemon and Cucumber

Blitz a lemon and a medium sized cucumber in a blender. Shampoo the paste as normal and leave on for about three to five minutes then rinse off well. The acidity of the lemon kills of bacteria and other pathogens.  The cucumber offers a soothing effect. This detox is great for oily scalp and dandruff removal. It also promotes hair growth!


It would not be a bad idea to add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to these mixes to up the therapeutic level.
